A Handmade Life

A handmade life by Six Inner West Makers

As women, the Six Inner West Makers face particular challenges as makers – juggling motherhood, building a creative career and at times a paying job. This exhibition is an opportunity for them to work in their own mediums but also experiment across a variety of other mediums including: basketry and weaving, eco-printing, jewellery, textile work and more.

It also affords them the opportunity to develop professional practice, build confidence in the public sphere and engage with their community. The value of the camaraderie between makers, the scope for cross pollination, and the benefit of having a support network is also paramount.

The six Inner West makers showcasing vibrant, new work are: Gill Brooks – feltmaker; Romana Toson – contemporary jeweller; Ro Cook – textile artist; Meryl Blundell – contemporary jeweller; Kim Davies – textile artist; and Lorri Evans – leather worker.
