Botanical Patterning 2

Botanical Patterning: Introduction to designing for textiles

Textile designers are trained to draw inspiration from the natural world to create evocative patterns for fashion and interior fabrics. A creative eye and sense of colour are two of the key skills required for those interested in textiles.

This two-part workshop will introduce you to the process of observational drawing and painting to develop your own motifs for textiles from Australian native flora, and then to create repeat patterns from your motifs.

This course is perfect for those looking to gain an insight into the process of textile design. Your teacher, Emma Peters, will share her knowledge and experience as a respected commercial textile designer alongside practical demonstrations, samples and guided exercises.

Emma has worked as a designer in the textile industry for over a decade and teaches at two of Australia’s leading design universities – Art and Design, UNSW and UTS.

Details: Saturday 6 October and Saturday 13 October; Cost: $168 per person over two Saturday mornings.
